"Synthetic#1 (Bark)" originates from the discovery of a central branch of a rosemary plant in the garden of my deceased neighbor. The branch, now dried and dead due to an erroneous cut at the base, inspired this piece.
The branch's body, hung upside down in the middle of the studio, is covered with cement and geolite, creating a secondary surface that resembles an alien encrustation, mimicking and replacing the nobility of its original bark.
This surface exists in the liminal space between the natural and the synthetic, composed of stone and fiberglass fibers, transforming it into a posthuman object. Stripped of its bark and emptied of its central component where the sap once flowed, the concrete shell endures the temperature of the fire that burns inside. It remains the only tangible element of the sculpture, alongside the void created by the combustion of the wood.
